Allergic Girl: Adventures in Living Well with Food Allergies
By Sloane Miller
I just finished reading this book and loved it!
Like many of the “How to…” books on living with food allergies, it has lots of great tips, but what I really appreciated was the author’s attitude through the book. Instead of living in fear of her allergies and limiting her life, she advises on how to live life to the fullest while still being safe and advocating for yourself. Every chapter is packed with practical tips that are easily implemented… not just a bunch of encouragement without teaching.
The book is written from the perspective of an adult living with severe food alergies. It covers eating out, dating (ugh!), doctors, travelling, and so much more! As a parent of a little girl with a severe peanut allergy, I’m probably getting a little ahead of my self, but I like to be prepared. I feel like this book has helped me to have a plan… to give me some language to plant in her mind and heart as she grows and matures and becomes ready to manage her allergies herself. (Ok, it helps ME to have a little more confidence and have a model to work towards too!)
The book is well written, a quick read, and very, very, very worth your time.
